Mad River Garden Center

Mad River Garden Center is your one-stop shop for garden product, supplies, and tools in our nursery and store. We are a locally owned and operated garden center with landscaping design and services, property management, and floral design and services. Let us know how we can help you! Located in the Mad River Valley of central Vermont, we are open year-round with a friendly, knowledgeable staff that is ready to help.

The Garden Center will be closed for a week for renovations starting Sunday November 1, 2015. We are making more space for Property Management, moving/updating the floral department, and sprucing up the floors. We had fun yesterday ripping up the old carpet, and today we begin painting the cement slab that was beneath. Come see all the changes when we re-open the week of November 8th.

September Wedding at the 1824 House

Our talented florists, Kelly & Susan, spent last week creating for a wedding at the picturesque 1824 House. This wedding was larger than we usually take on. A typical wedding for us is one where we arrange the carrying bouquets, corsages & boutonnieres, and order in bulk flowers for the wedding party to arrange centerpieces themselves. We do not often do complete installations for lack of a true floral delivery truck. But we gave it a go this time, and it went really well!  Perhaps we will consider providing this type of service more often in the future.  Susan attend the event and was able to see how everything held up throughout the evening.  Pictures are courtesy of her!

Warren Installation

We just finished the second phase of a large installation of trees, shrubs and perennials at a property in Warren.  Our Property Management & Landscaping crews have spent the past few days digging, planting and mulching– making the outside of this home even more gorgeous than it already was.  It will be fun to see how everything grows and fills in over the upcoming years.  Check out the photos below and call us with all your planting needs, big or small!

‘Tis The Season for Gorgeous Trees & Perennials

Blueberry bushes on a warm, sunny day with fruit waiting to ripen.

Come check out our fantastic selection of trees, shrubs and perennials!  It’s a great time to shift focus to the more permanent aspects of your landscape.  A particularly popular item and staff favorite is blueberry bushes.  Add a couple of new shrubs each year and soon you’ll have a sweet blueberry patch.

Our resident feline, Cheezy Poof keeping an eye on the perennials.

Jess took her annual trip up to our perennial grower in Fairfax, Vermont yesterday, so look out for an awesome fresh selection of plants arriving tomorrow.  It’s always fun to go see firsthand what they’ve got growing and bring in all the best, brightest, coolest stuff.  Stop in soon for the best selection.  We can’t wait to see you!

Pansies & Trees are here!

Spring is finally here in earnest! It’s been perfect sugaring weather: cool nights and warm days with temps reaching into the 60s. Our landscaping and property management crews were dispatched starting Monday. They’re busy cleaning up yards and opening gardens. We’re gladly booking new clients and jobs, so don’t hesitate to call and discuss your project.

001On the home front, Wednesday was a big day—our first delivery of pansies arrived bright and early. We have a beautiful selection, so come down and grab some early season color for your window boxes or garden beds. Pansies and violas are quite hardy and can withstand a light frost.

Our first delivery of trees and shrubs is being unloaded as I write this, with more to come in the next couple of weeks. Our greenhouse will be fully stocked by early May. We can’t wait to see you here at the Garden Center!002003001

Spring is (almost) here!

002It’s been a long, cold winter and spring is taking it’s time to arrive, but here at the Garden Center we are gearing up for those gorgeous warm, sunny days. They can’t come quick enough!

potting soilWe are fully stocked with seeds and seed starting supplies, spring bulbs, and pansies will be here on Wednesday, April 15th. It’s always a fun day around here when the first outdoor color of the season arrives! Soon after that we’ll begin getting all our other annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs and vegetable starts. We can’t wait to be wearing t-shirts and flip flops out watering the plants in the warm greenhouse.

If you’d like a little (or a lot!) of help opening up your gardens for the season, don’t forget we have a full service gardening and property management team ready to tackle your projects. We can take on anything from simple mulching jobs to full scale landscaping projects. Just give Ed a call to arrange a walk through and estimate (802-279-5016). Our full-time mow crews are also happily taking on new clients for the upcoming season. We really can’t wait to get to work!
